CSA: Week 10

August 3, 2011 by Sara Kreidler

Another overflowing box.  So much to eat and preserve!

This week’s box includes:

  • 1 jalapeno
  • 1 yellow squash
  • 2 zucchini
  • 10 tomatoes
  • 3 pickling cucumbers
  • 1 red onion
  • Green beans
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 german red strawberry tomato
  • 1 bunch of carrots
  • 1 bunch of scallions
  • Chard
  • Parsley
  • Dill
  • Blueberries
And now for some close ups of the goods:

Zucchini, yellow squash, and a jalapeno.  I still have zucchini and yellow squash leftover from last week’s box and from Toby’s mom and dad.  I think it’s time to try making zucchini pickles.

Tomatoes.  We used some of them to make a quick pasta sauce tonight.  I can’t wait until it’s time to bring home bushels full of tomatoes and make sauce for the winter.  Should be soon!

Three pickling cucumbers.  We’ve already eaten one jar of the pickles we made a few weeks ago — time to make some more (we have more cukes from Toby’s mom and dad ready to be pickled too).

A red onion.

Green beans, perhaps to be eaten fresh, but more likely than not to be pickled.

Two heads of green leaf lettuce.  This stuff is nice, but the butter lettuce we had earlier in the season is still my favorite.

A green bell pepper, a german red strawberry tomato, a bunch of carrots and a bunch of scallions.

Carrots, up close.

Chard.  I love the bright pink stems.

Parsley and dill.

As always, I’m looking forward to the cooking and canning adventures this week’s box brings.  Stay tuned for more posts.
