CSA: Week 21

October 21, 2011 by Sara Kreidler

For the first time since week 7 (July 13th), we have no tomatoes.  Summer went by too fast, but I’m excited about autumn, my favorite season.

This week’s box includes:

  • Mesclun greens
  • Cauliflower
  • Red skinned potatoes
  • 2 eggplant
  • 2 heads red leaf lettuce
  • Apples
  • Carrots
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 enormous bulb of fennel

And now for some close ups of the goods:

Mesclun greens.

Cauliflower.  We’re planning to use this to make cauliflower soup.

Eggplants, which will be cooked in a curry sauce with some canned tomatoes and chickpeas later this week.

Red leaf lettuce.

Incredibly tasty, crisp, sweet apples.

A mess of carrots.

Green bell peppers.  We have an accumulation of these guys, so we’re planning to make some stuffed peppers this week.

Monster fennel plant.  Yuck.  This is the one vegetable that we have absolutely no interest in.  None.  I don’t even think pickling it could make it better.

Other than the fennel, a pretty nice box and some fun kitchen projects planned for this week.
