Winter CSA: Box 1

December 18, 2011 by Sara Kreidler

The regular CSA season ended a few weeks ago, but the Kretschmanns have started a winter CSA and we eagerly signed up. Unlike our weekly subscription that runs from spring through fall, the winter boxes are delivered every other week.  The first box, pictured above, was delivered nearly two weeks ago (I am really, really behind on my blog thanks to the holidays, work and a trip to NYC).  The first box was very full, and we’ve enjoyed having so many good things to eat.  Also, our new pickup site is at the soon to be home of Wild Purveyors, a local foods market just a few blocks from our home — I could not be more excited to see this store open up in our neighborhood.

This first winter box included:

  • Apples
  • Potatoes
  • Red leaf lettuce
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Beets
  • Green cabbage
  • Radicchio
  • Kale
  • Butternut squash
  • Mesclun greens
  • Parsley
  • Rosemary
  • Carrots
  • Radishes

And now for some close ups of the goods:

Apples.

Potatoes.

Green and red leaf lettuces.

Beets.

Green cabbage.

Radicchio.

Parsley and rosemary.

Carrots and radishes.

Butternut squash.

Mesclun greens, up close.

Kale, and lots of it.

The second box will arrive this week, which is perfect timing since Christmas feasting is right around the corner.
