CSA 2012: Week 5

June 28, 2012 by Sara Kreidler

Each week, I post a photo of one “featured” item from our weekly CSA box and provide a list of all of the contents of the week’s box. Later in the week, I post either a cooking or canning recipe that uses the featured ingredient. You know, sort of like Sesame Street’s letter of the day.

How is it possibly week 5 already, with the 4th of July around the corner?

The fifth week’s featured CSA item is (drumroll please): rainbow chard.

Rainbow chard; full disclosure, this is a photo of chard from last year’s CSA box, because I’m a bonehead and forgot to take a photo of this week’s chard before I cleaned and chopped it up this morning.

This week’s box includes:

  • Red leaf lettuce
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Scallions
  • Zucchini
  • Rainbow chard
  • Beets
  • Cabbage
  • Radishes
  • Basil
  • New potatoes

Stay tuned for a rainbow chard recipe in the next few days!

Thanks! We subscribe to the Kretschmann Farm CSA — They’re really great, this is our third year with them. We receive the “plus” sized box, which is about $27/week for 25 weeks, and we think it’s a steal. Here’s a link to my page on the blog which shows all of the weekly boxes from last year and this year so far (each week is hyperlinked to the entry with the list and pictures). It may be too late for this season to sign up with the Kretschmann’s, but you could shoot them an email to make sure, if you’re interested.
